A little history of our main churches... ….. for the more curious...

The Church of St Bartholomew of the 13th century, whose cover is a clear example of Gothic sculpture Rioja... Fascinating simplicity in the interior of the temple... And its Mudejar tower which had formerly been used for defensive purposes.

Our Church of Santiago of the 16th century with its Baroque facade, is located inside the Virgen de la Esperanza, patron saint of the city, and the crypt of the damned... The Temple had a special role during the great siege of 1521 because the Logroño took refuge within its walls, in fact have legends that she went out passageways to the River Ebro where at night when the French slept... citizens fished to eat... Hence comes the fish of the feasts of St. Barnabas...  Next to it the game of the goose and the source of the pilgrims where they stop to cool as it passes through our city since the Camino de Santiago crosses it and runs through...

The Co-Cathedral of the round with its famous twin towers serve them as guide for getting around the city... Although they are not actually twins one measures nearly 5 m more than the other, and... The name of the Co-Cathedral is because its first building Romanesque circular... of this era we have the name... This built in a swampy area a short distance from the river ebro, so its foundation was made with vine shoots, we rot with moisture and well distributed loads, and absorb the land settlements.  Its majestic main façade, known as the home of los Angeles is composed by

an altarpiece of three bodies that flank two towers. The twins, example of the so-called La Rioja Baroque.

In his afternoon walk when you way to their new home, don't miss the visit of The Imperial Church of Santa Maria of Palace and its Gothic needle of the 13th century Church owes its name to the donation made by Alfonso VII in his palace in 1130 so they erected the first Foundation of the order of the Holy Sepulchre in the Kingdom of Castile.

The old town of Logroño is full of drafts, which is the name given in La Rioja wineries that were under the houses. The draught of St. Gregory of the S.VVI stands out for its size and its barrel-vaulted. Striking is the draught of the old PI Allatius of the Yanguas, today Center of the culture of La Rioja.

Our bridges... link to the area north of Spain with our city...

The stone bridge is one of the symbols of the city. It appears in the coat of arms of Logroño with three watchtowers. Also called Puente de San Juan de Ortega, in reference to the chapel that existed in its left margin (in honor of the Holy that is traditionally believed to built the original bridge). This bridge suffered many floods and in 1871 collapsed, having to rebuild it and at the same time build our bridge of iron handle of Práxedes Mateo Sagasta, opened in 1882, so was called Sagasta bridge... Do you know that was built the first bridge of iron in Spain in Logroño?

Our door del revellín, or Carlos v, named after defending the siege of the French, is the only remnant of the old wall...

We could spend hours and hours talking about our main monuments, churches... and in our history... but... almost better... you come to see us and have you in person... ;)...!
